Historical Prerequisites of Emergence of Slavic Writing

Creation of Slavic writing was caused by rivalry and even direct fight in the IX century of two Christian centers – Rome and Byzantium. As political struggle at that time was often given religious shapes, the appeal of the principality of Moravia to Byzantium behind permission in Moravian tserkva to conduct church service in Slavic language was satisfied. There was a need of the translation of prayer books with Greek on Slavic language, as formed the basis of development of the Slavic alphabet.
